How to Fish with the Buster Jerk?
For those new to using jerkbaits—or for anyone looking to fine-tune their technique—here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your Strike Pro Buster Jerk:
- Use a Medium-to-Fast Retrieve: The Buster Jerk shines when retrieved with varying speeds. Start with a medium retrieve and then add in some fast, aggressive jerks to provoke reaction strikes from pike.
- Focus on the Pause: After a few quick jerks, let the lure pause. The Buster Jerk’s ability to suspend in the water mimics an injured fish perfectly, often triggering a strike when it’s least expected.
- Experiment with Depths: Depending on the conditions, you can adjust your retrieval pattern to fish the Buster Jerk at different depths. This makes it incredibly versatile, whether you’re fishing in shallow bays or deeper lakes.

Strike Pro X Buster
X-Buster from Strike Pro
A 2-piece jerkbait, swimbait, or glidebait (side to side). A piece of artificial bait that can be fished in various ways, in other words, a nice hybrid lure. You can use it for jerking, pulling, twitching, and trolling. In short, it’s a versatile piece of tackle. Is the X-Buster a bit underrated? The Buster Jerk is well-known among many predator anglers, but you see fewer anglers using the X-Buster. Is it due to lack of awareness, or is this piece of tackle difficult to work with when fishing with lures? Through this article, I hope to clarify what you can do with this piece of tackle.
The X-Buster
As mentioned above, the X-Buster is a 2-part lure, featuring a nice high profile and a loud rattle. In the middle, there is a sturdy pin for moving the lure through the water. They come in natural or unnatural colors. The beautiful colors and the paint applied are strong. You don’t have to worry about the paint coming off after numerous attacks from predatory fish. In short, it’s a solid piece of tackle that is well worth its price.
Tail
The jerkbait is equipped with a rubber tail that is resistant to pike teeth. The tails are easy to replace due to the bayonet closure. A nice system. I use the darker versions of the tails for clear water, while in browner water due to rainfall, current, or wind, I use the brighter colored tails. If a tail in your tackle box is a bit bent and the action of the X-Buster is not okay anymore, here’s a tip: bring water to a boil. Hang the X-Buster with the tail in boiling water; the tail will soften, and you can bend it back into the correct swimming position.
Specifications
The X-Buster is available in a slowly sinking version. It is suitable for both deep and shallow waters. The X-Buster weighs 90 grams, is 17 cm long, and features 2x 2/0 sharp treble hooks.
Action
The X-Buster can be classified as a hybrid piece of tackle. A lure that can be fished in many different ways. When using the X-Buster as a jerkbait, ensure you have a jerkbait rod with a stiffer action, so that all the twitches you give are effectively transmitted to the X-Buster. Rods around 2.10-2.20m are good for boat fishing. You can also use this rod when fishing the X-Buster as a swimbait. In the polders, the rod can be a bit longer. The X-Buster performs best with short, sharp twitches when jerking; it beautifully dances from side to side. Vary your rhythm and let it pause regularly. Especially those pause moments are worth their weight in gold.
When using the X-Buster as a swimbait, simply cast it out and reel it in slowly or pull a bit with your rod. The swimbait now swims naturally towards you. Vary the speed and let it sink still. When it stops, you will notice that the X-Buster suddenly swings widely to one side. Wait a moment and then continue.
The X-Buster can also be effectively used as a twitchbait. Short, sharp twitches make the jerkbait quickly swing from left to right. Vary your tempo and include breaks here as well.
Additionally, the X-Buster is usable as a trolling lure. In the shallow waters where I fish, the lure can be applied well. Cast it out a distance behind the boat, and the lure will naturally match the boat's speed. If you want to fish a bit deeper, attach a sinker or spinning weight to the eye of the hooks. The X-Buster will then dive a bit deeper without losing its action.
Conclusion
In summary, the X-Buster is a versatile piece of tackle that can be fished in many different ways. When casting, it’s one of the better jerkbaits. Versatile and durable, as it is lead-free. Beautiful color patterns. The X-Buster should be a staple in every seasoned angler's tackle box.
